Rain and dust storm lashed parts of Delhi on Thursday evening amid scorching heat and rising temperatures. Raindrops were found around Firoz Shah Road and India Gate.

The rain comes days after the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted that the first dust storm is likely to hit Delhi, which is an outside chance.

The reason for such weather is believed to be a Western Disturbance, which has an induced cyclonic circulation over Haryana and adjoining areas. Simultaneously, the temperature has dropped slightly, but is still around 40 degrees, so the reason for such thunderstorm activities remains summer.

“The first thunderstorm and dust storm is expected to be observed today and tomorrow, with some activity on April 15 as well. The intensity will be at its peak today, then it will subside,” the IMD said on Wednesday.

However earlier today, the IMD had predicted that heat waves would continue in and around Delhi in the coming days.
