A new study has shown that a woman’s exposure to gang violence – including abuse of herself and her child – accelerates reproductive aging resulting in an earlier age of menopause. The study results were published in the Journal of The North American Menopause Society (NAMS). Exposure to violence has previously been shown to be associated with a range of mental and physical health problems. New research also revealed its association with the speed of reproductive ageing. This new study was the first to look at what is known as the risk of intergenerational violence and its effect on age of menopause.
