In a clear violation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC), an AIADMK office-bearer distributed cash to at least 80 people who attended ‘aarti’ for senior party leaders during their election campaign at Municipal Colony in Erode (East) Assembly. ‘ were waiting to do. constituency here on Monday

Former ministers, SP Velumani and P. Thangamani, were scheduled to visit the area in the afternoon to campaign for KS Thennarasu. Before his visit, an official distributed plates and ₹100 each to women waiting in line on either side of the road to perform ‘aarti’ to welcome the former ministers. After the candidate and the leaders had left the street, the plates were again taken from them and the women dispersed.

Speaking on anonymity, a woman said that they welcomed candidates or leaders of any political parties with a traditional ‘aarti’, for which they were given a ‘service charge’. “We should not go to other lanes or wards to take aarti,” he said and added that they should have voter photo ID cards.
