Keeping in view the background of the students, Govt. Growth should be withdrawn: Panneerselvam

Opposing the hike in examination fee for students in colleges affiliated to Bharathidasan University, AIADMK coordinator O. Panneerselvam on Sunday urged the Chief Minister to withdraw it.

“Keeping in view the humble background of the students and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the government should roll back the fee hike and prevent other universities from taking such a step,” he said in a statement.

DMK had promised to waive off educational loans of students below the age of 30. It not only failed to fulfill the promise but also increased the examination fee, the former chief minister said and claimed that the DMK government was sprinkling salt on the wound.

He informed that since March 2020, the three waves of the COVID-19 pandemic and the impact of the final lockdown restrictions have severely affected the education of the students.

Condemning the AIADMK’s increase in examination fee in colleges affiliated to Bharathidasan University, he said, “It will take them about one to two years to come back to normalcy.”

Panneerselvam, citing media reports, said that in some colleges in Thanjavur and Tiruvarur, students protested against the hike in examination fees. He said there was speculation that the examination fee could be increased in other universities as well.
