AICTE, IPA sign MoU to introduce plumbing education in engineering, architectural institutes

The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has signed an agreement with the Indian Plumbing Association (IPA) to start a course in plumbing in engineering and architectural institutions across India, officials said. The MoU was signed between AICTE Chairman Anil D Sahasrabuddhe and IPA National President Gurmeet Singh Arora.

According to the agreement, students studying engineering, architecture, or interior designing, or graduates with a “major” degree in civil, environmental and mechanical engineering, architecture, or interior designing, “will be able to take four-credit courses in” Plumbing ”(water and sanitation).

“There is a strong need for plumbing courses in engineering and architecture courses because plumbing leads to the health of a building. IPA and AICTE have collaborated to create a 50-hour plumbing course that will be 80 percent theory and 20 percent practice,” AICTE President signed the MoU.

The IPA and AICTE have urged all educational institutions approved by the technical education regulator to provide plumbing (water and sanitation) programs to prepare students for their careers in the industry. Through AICTE’s faculty development programmes, IPA will train institutional faculty to conduct plumbing courses.

“This is a tremendous opportunity for the stakeholders of the entire plumbing sector as plumbing will become more organized and structured thereafter. “One of the goals of the IPA is to educate and instruct engineers, architects and students in these fields about the characteristics of excellent and appropriate plumbing techniques,” Arora said.
