Ailing Musharraf ready to return to Pakistan – Times of India

Islamabad (Pakistan): Former military leader of Pakistan Pervez MusharrafThe Voice of America (VOA), who has been hospitalized for the past three weeks due to health complications, is set to return home from self-imposed exile, the Voice of America (VOA) reported.
However, the exact date of his arrival in Pakistan was not immediately disclosed.
Highly placed government sources told the VOA that authorities in Pakistan are making arrangements to allow the return of the 79-year-old former general.
The report said that an air ambulance would bring back Musharraf from a hospital in Dubai with the consent of his family and doctors.
Musharraf has been living in the UAE since 2016, when he was allowed to travel abroad on bail for treatment. At the time, he was being tried in Pakistan on charges of sedition, which was later overturned by a High Court ruling.
Last week, media reports started doing the rounds about her Musharraf’s deteriorating health,
On Twitter, Musharraf’s family denied reports that he was on a ventilator and said he was going through a difficult period of recovery as his organs were damaged.
“He is not on ventilator. He is hospitalized for the last 3 weeks due to complaints of his illness (amyloidosis) going through a difficult phase where recovery is not possible and organs are deteriorating. Pray for his ease in daily life,” his family said in a Twitter post.
Element Musharraf is called amyloidosis. This is a rare form of the condition that is caused by a buildup of an abnormal protein called amyloid in organs and tissues throughout the body.
A buildup of amyloid protein (deposit) can make it difficult for organs and tissues to function properly. Without treatment, it can lead to organ failure, according to the National Health Service, UK. Pakistan’s Defense Minister Khawaja Asif said the general would face “no hindrance” in returning home in view of his ill health.
Asif tweeted on Saturday: “Let’s not let the events of the past come in the way. May Allah help him recover so that he can live the rest of his life with dignity.”
Musharraf seized power in a bloodless military coup in 1999, toppling the then elected government of the prime minister Nawaz Sharif,
He later declared himself president and ruled Pakistan until his political allies were defeated in the 2008 general election, forcing him to step down to avoid impeachment by the new parliament.
