NITI Aayog’s Atal Innovation Mission is hopeful of achieving the target of setting up 10,000 Atal Tinkering Labs (ATLs) in schools across the country in the next three months, its mission director Chintan Vaishnav has said. Vaishnav further said that he is also working on a five-year vision document for the Atal Innovation Mission (AIM), a flagship initiative of the Modi government to create and promote a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship across the country.

“In the next three months, we look forward to achieving the target of setting up 10,000 Atal Tinkering Labs (ATLs),” he added. Till date, AIM has established more than 9,500 ATLs. The mission has been set up under NITI Aayog as announced by the Finance Minister in the 2015 budget speech.

ATL is a workspace where young minds can shape their ideas through hands-on and learn innovation skills. AIM aims to create and promote an ecosystem of innovation and entrepreneurship across the country through interventions at school, university, research institutes, MSME and industry levels. AIM’s programs covering 34 states and union territories aim to take advantage of India’s demographic dividend by stimulating greater participation in the innovation ecosystem.
