AIMIM offer to meet Azam Khan in Chandrashekhar Azad Jail as SP leader, RLD Outreach

Azad Samaj Party chief Chandrashekhar Azad is tipped to meet Samajwadi Party leader and Rampur MLA Azam Khan soon in Sitapur Jail, where he has been lodged since February 2020 for alleged land grabbing and other cases.

Speculation is rife after RLD chief Jayant Choudhary, who allied with the SP in the recent UP elections, met Khan’s family in Rampur. The visit was seen as an attempt by Asaduddin Owaisi to pacify the Azam Khan camp amid AIMIM offers to jump ship. The Khan camp is reportedly upset over being “ignored” by the SP leadership.

After meeting Khan’s son Abdullah Azam and wife Tazeen Fatima at their home in Rampur, Chowdhury said: “Our families have known each other for three generations. Had I been in Rampur, I would have met him, especially when he is going through a difficult time.

However, the RLD chief did not comment on the dissenting voice of the Azam Khan camp against the SP leadership.

Meanwhile, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav denied rumors that Choudhary had met Khan’s family at his behest. Ask Jayant Chowdhary why he met Azam Khan’s family. It’s nice to meet people. I didn’t send him.”

AIMIM spokesperson Mohammad Farhan had recently sent a three-page letter to Khan in Sitapur jail, purportedly inviting him to join the party. Sambhal SP MP Shafiq ur Rehman Barak and Azam Khan’s close aide Fasahat Ali Shanu alleged that the Samajwadi Party was not working for Muslims.

In further headache for SP, Akhilesh Yadav’s uncle Shivpal Yadav, who contested from his traditional Jaswantnagar seat on the party’s symbol, may end the alliance soon. He had recently met Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for 20 minutes at his official residence.
