Air India News: After the loss-making Air India was taken over by the Tata Group in January last year, the airline on Friday offered a second voluntary retirement to its non-flying employees.

As per the communication, the latest offer will be open to permanent general cadre officers who have reached the age of 40 years or above and who have served the airline for at least five years continuously. Also, employees of administrative and unskilled categories who have put in continuous service for at least five years are eligible.

Around 2,100 employees will be eligible for voluntary retirement offer

As per reports, a total of around 2,100 employees will be eligible to avail the benefits of the latest voluntary retirement offer. Currently, the airline has a workforce of around 11,000 including flight and non-flying staff. In June 2022, Air India introduced the first phase of the Voluntary Retirement Offer.

Meanwhile, the employees have demanded that additional allowance of voluntary retirement be made available to all permanent employees.

Employees will be provided ex-gratia as one-time benefit

“Ex-gratia amount will also be provided as one-time benefit to the employees applying for voluntary retirement from March 17, 2023 to April 30, 2023.” above the ex-gratia amount,” the communication said.

The first phase of the voluntary retirement proposal covered both flying and non-flying staff. At that time, around 4,200 employees were eligible and around 1,500 of them opted for the offer, PTI reported citing sources.
