Air India to send replacement plane for passengers stranded in Russia today

Air India will send a reserve plane from Mumbai to Russia for stranded passengers in Magadan on Wednesday. Yesterday, AI173 Delhi- San Franciso flight developed a technical issue because of engine trouble. The flight, carrying 216 passengers and 16 crew diverted to Magadan, Russia.

On Wednesday, Air India arranged a ferry flight to Magadan Airport in Russia from Mumbai. The flight will take off at 1 pm (IST) which would take passengers and crew of AI173 onward to San Francisco, the airline said in a statement.

The ferry flight would be carrying food and other essentials for passengers.

Air India flight AI173 of date operating from Delhi to San Francisco developed a technical issue with one of its engines. The flight with 216 passengers and 16 crew was diverted and landed safely in Magadan airport in Russia,” Air India said in a statement.

 

“The passengers are being provided all support on the ground and will be provided alternate options to reach their destinations at the earliest. The aircraft is undergoing mandatory checks on the ground. We sincerely regret the inconvenience caused to the passengers,” it added.

AI 173 flight passengers were provided with makeshift accommodation with the help of the local government.

Meanwhile, the US has said that it is continuing to closely monitor the situation after a San Francisco-bound Air India flight made an emergency landing.

Principal Deputy Spokesperson, for the US Department of State, Vedant Patel has said that the department is aware of the US-bound flight that had to make an emergency landing in Russia on Tuesday.
