Airport to offer ‘green’ luggage tag

Thiruvananthapuram International Airport will present baggage tags containing seeds of vegetables, herbs and flowers to passengers as part of World Environment Day celebrations on Sunday.

The tag can be soaked in water and buried in the soil after the trip. Each tag will have seeds for vegetables like tomatoes, eggplants and peppers, flowers like marigolds and herbs like basil. The airport is organizing several other events to mark the World Environment Day celebrations.

These include cleaning of Shanghmugham beach, setting up of an herbal garden near the domestic terminal, environmental quiz for travelers and cultural performances by different child actors.

The airport also plans to replace 10 fossil fuel vehicles with electric vehicles this year to reduce carbon emissions. It will also set up two EV fast charging stations in both the terminals. According to a press note issued by the management, efforts are on to replace air conditioners with lower greenhouse gas emitting units.
