Airtel to provide powerful 5G network connectivity in India: Sunil Mittal

New Delhi: Bharti Airtel Chairman Sunil Mittal has said that the company will be at the forefront of bringing 5G connectivity. India With a powerful network to support the country’s digital-first economy. Mittal’s comments assume significance as the countdown for the 5G spectrum auction has begun.

A total of 72 gigahertz (gigahertz) radio waves worth at least Rs 4.3 lakh crore will be put on the block during the auction starting July 26.

Billionaire Gautam Adani’s flagship Adani Enterprise Ltd, a unit of Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea is set to participate in the auction of 5G spectrum. India’s market is poised for 5G services, which will usher in ultra-high speeds (about 10 times faster than 4G) and bring new age services and business models.

In Bharti Airtel’s Annual Report 2021-22, Sunil Mittal said, “We can proudly say that Airtel will be at the forefront of bringing 5G connectivity to India with a powerful network that will support India’s digital-first economy.” Mittal noted that Airtel took the lead in 5G by testing the network ahead of the competition and became the first operator in India to demonstrate a 5G cloud gaming experience and successfully test the 700 MHz band for rural connectivity.

In his message to shareholders titled ‘Forward with Courage and Confidence’, Mittal further said that digital services will, over the next few years, add several billions of dollars to the company’s revenue while maintaining a lightweight outlook on assets.

This confidence is born out of early successes in Airtel’s digital efforts, he explained. Mittal wrote, amidst the new COVID-19 variant, geopolitical crisis, rising commodity prices and high inflation, India emerged as a bright spot in the global economy in the financial year.

“We should all be ready to take a big step forward and have the courage to act with confidence in a new way in a new way,” he said. Gopal Vittal, managing director of Airtel, said the company is “completely ready” for 5G and that its core network, radio network and transport network are fully future proofed.

“…we demonstrated our readiness for 5G by conducting an industry-first trial that focused on both consumer and industrial use cases,” Vittal said.
