AISA members start hunger strike demanding reopening of Delhi University

DU resumed experimental laboratory session from September 15 for undergraduate and postgraduate final year students.

Members of the Left-affiliated All India Students’ Union (AISA) on Monday began a hunger strike demanding the reopening. Delhi University (DU). After a significant improvement in the Covid situation in the city, DU’s acting vice-chancellor PC Joshi had said on September 1 that the university would be reopened in a phased manner.

The university resumed the experimental laboratory session from September 15 for the final year students of undergraduate and postgraduate. However, the physical presence of the students is optional. The AISA protest began at Gate No 4 of the Faculty of Arts, with 15 students sitting on a hunger strike on the first day, a statement said, adding that the agitation would continue on Tuesday as well.

slogans against National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 And the university was raised for immediate reopening, while the protesters also demanded a meeting with the vice-chancellor. The students claimed that Delhi Police personnel were threatening them and obstructing the protest.

AISA statement said that all commercial activities have been allowed, but the government has decided to keep all educational institutions closed. The hunger strike will continue till the Vice-Chancellor comes out and guarantees the reopening of Delhi University.
