AIUDF’s Ajmal said, avoid killing cows on this Eid, Shiva temple is the mother of Hindus

First request to avoid cow slaughter and then visit Shiva temple – All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) supremo Maulana Badruddin Ajmal, a well-known pro-Muslim voice in Assam has stunned everyone with his pro-Hindu stand overnight.

As part of his four-day Barak Valley visit, Ajmal on Monday visited the Shiva temple ‘Sri Sri Baram Baba’ in Cachar district. He not only entered the temple but also posed for a group photo in front of the temple and later had lunch with the temple priests and temple committee members.

His temple visit immediately caught the attention of netizens, who ridiculed him for “offering worship”.

Ajmal clarified: “If a Hindu person goes to a mosque, do we say that he has come to offer prayers? We don’t go to temple-mosque just to worship. My party MLAs are running free kitchens for 15,000 poor people here and I have come to appreciate them. The temple committee formally invited me. This is such a great work of humanity. Also, I never entered the temple. I ate on the other side of the road.”

Earlier in the day, Ajmal, a three-time MP from a Muslim-majority constituency in Assam and perfume tycoon, appealed to the community to avoid cow slaughter/sacrifice during the upcoming Eid-al-Adha festival or Bakri Eid, on July 10. He requested Muslims to refrain from slaughtering cows as Hindus consider cow as their mother and sacrificing it would hurt their sentiments.

He cited Darul Uloom Deoband’s 2008 appeal to say, “Since most of the Indians are Hindus and they follow Sanatan Dharma, Muslims should not do any act that hurts their sentiments and faith.”

Meanwhile, Ajmal’s aides have alleged that he is planning to leave the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) and forge an alliance with the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) ahead of the presidential election.

Independent MLA Akhil Gogoi said: “Like the previous Rajya Sabha elections, the AIUDF is going to betray the opposition alliance in the presidential election as well.”

Assam Pradesh Congress Committee president Bhupen Bora said, “We were bitten by snakes twice. So we will not go to the snake again. For Ajmal, business is more important than politics and that is why he dances to the tune of CM.

Ajmal blamed Bora for the rift and said his party may support the NDA candidate in anger and frustration. According to him, his party colleagues are “hurt” by Bora’s baseless allegations.
