Bollywood star Ajay Devgn on Thursday started shooting for the sequel to his 2015 crime thriller “Drishyam”.

Directed by late filmmaker Nishikant Kamat, “Drishyam” was a remake of the Mohanlal-starrer Malayalam language film of the same name, whose second film released on Amazon Prime Video in February last year.

“Drishyam” is the story of a family of four, whose life turns upside down after an unfortunate incident that happened to their elder daughter. Devgn is set to reprise his role of Vijay Salgaonkar in the sequel, which will also include the star cast of the first film: Tabu, Shriya Saran and Ishita Dutta.

Abhishek Pathak will direct the next chapter in the franchise, which begins seven years after the events and tests Vijay’s resolve to protect his family for which he will cross any limits. Devgn says he is looking forward to presenting an interesting story with ‘Drishyam 2’ and playing the multifaceted character of Vijay Salgaonkar once again.

“‘Drishyam’ was loved and it is a legend. Vijay is a multifaceted character and he creates a compelling on-screen narrative. Abhishek Pathak (director) has a fresh approach to this film.

The 52-year-old actor said in a statement, “I look forward to part two, with the people investing in the mystery and characters, to fill in the bigger shoes of the earlier film.” Pathak, who has previously directed “Ujada Chaman” and also produced films like “Pyaar Ka Punchnama” and “Raid”, said he feels honored to have made an official remake of a successful franchise.

“It is also a challenge, but the opportunity to work with Ajay Devgn, who is such a powerhouse of talent, is a morale-booster for any creative person; his unparalleled influence is undoubtedly the most enriching experience for me personally.” It’s exciting to retell a story from your own point of view and vision through different scenes in the most justified yet extraordinary way. The setting and mood of the film picks up the essence of the crux and makes it entertaining from the very beginning.” “Drishyam 2” is produced and co-produced by Bhushan Kumar, Kumar Mangat Pathak, Abhishek Pathak, Krishan Kumar. Sanjeev Joshi, Aditya By Chouksey and Shiv Chanana.

T-Series’ Bhushan Kumar said that the sequel will be “job more” than the first “Drishyam”. “Ajay Devgan’s stellar performance and Kaushal in ‘Drishyam’ enthralled the audience. Keeping the excitement alive, we are happy to start shooting for the sequel, which will take the franchise a notch higher as the audience gets double Suspense, double mystery, double drama will be seen.” Kumar said. Panorama Studios Chairman and Managing Director Kumar Mangat Pathak said that he is happy to support “Drishyam 2” and with his son Abhishek directing the film, it gives him pride and a sense of accomplishment.

Viacom18 presents Gulshan Kumar, T-Series and Panorama Studios Presents, “Drishyam 2” is being shot with Devgn in Mumbai. It will be extensively shot in Goa in the coming months.
