Akhilesh’s contest with SP Singh Baghel in ‘Yadav Garh’ Karhal, second highest voter turnout after 1951

Karhal seat in Mainpuri district of Uttar Pradesh became the center of attraction in the third phase of assembly elections as it witnessed a fierce contest between Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav and BJP’s Union Minister SP Singh Baghel.

Record polling was witnessed in ‘Yadav Garh’ on Sunday as voters turned out in large numbers at polling stations to vote for their leaders. According to a Times of India report, the constituency recorded 62.32 per cent voter turnout till 5 pm, which was the second highest turnout for the seat since 1951.

According to the Election Commission, there are a total of 3.71 lakh voters in the Karhal seat, which includes 1.25 lakh Yadavs and 18,000 Muslims.

In 1951, the constituency was divided into Karhal West cum Shikohabad East and Karhal East cum Bhongaon South. It was a reserved constituency between 1957 and 1969 due to the majority of the Dalit community.
