Alex Pullin’s widow becomes mother of baby girl 15 months after Olympian’s tragic death

Elidi Pullin, widow of Olympic snowboarder Alex “Champy” Pullin, gave birth to her first child, a daughter. Announcing the birth of the couple’s baby girl, Allidi shared a set of photos with the newborn on Instagram. The Australian Olympian became the companion of a mother 15 months after the former’s tragic death in a javelin accident last year.

Allidi named their baby boy, born on October 25, as Minnie Alex Pullin on the photo-sharing platform. The child was conceived through in vitro fertilization or IVF. Alex’s sperm were taken posthumously, which led to Elidi Pullin becoming pregnant.

Speaking to CNN, Elidi mentioned, “We did that sperm retrieval procedure, of course, because the chump passed away, so that his sperm could be obtained. The doctor selected the best viable sperm out of millions and put it directly into the egg.”

The recently-turned-mom announced her pregnancy in June, saying the couple had been “dreaming” about having a baby together for years. Along with photos from her pregnancy photoshoot, she penned a note to her unborn child, which read, “Here in the middle of the heartbreaking plot twist, I’m honored to welcome a piece of the event that Champi is in. is back in the world.”

In her podcast, Darling, Elidi shares her conception journey. She mentioned that they had been trying to get pregnant before Alex passed away and were considering IVF treatment.

Alex, a two-time world champion snowboarder, was spearfishing solo on an artificial reef off Australia’s Gold Coast in July. When he was free diving in Palm Beach, his senses were blown away.

He was found unconscious by another diver on the bottom of the ocean without his oxygen mask. Lifeguards pulled him out of the water and attempted to revive him but were unsuccessful in their efforts. About 45 minutes later, Alex was pronounced dead. He was the first Australian to win gold in snowboarding, having competed in the Winter Games three times in his professional career. Alex was the flag bearer of his country at the Sochi 2014 Games.
