Alka Lamba appears before police over ‘provocative remarks’ on Delhi CM Kejriwal, Punjab Congress leaders protest

Congress leader Alka Lamba, booked for “provocative statements” against Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, appeared before the police here on Wednesday as party workers protested outside the SSP office over the matter. A case was registered against former AAP leaders Kumar Vishwas and Lamba at Sadar police station in Rupnagar town on April 12.

Ahead of the assembly elections, Vishwas had accused Kejriwal of supporting separatists. Lamba has been accused of supporting the remarks made by Vishwas. Party workers, led by Congress state unit chief Amarinder Singh Raja Waring, staged a sit-in outside the office of the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Rupnagar and raised slogans against the Bhagwant Mann government.

Besides Waring, senior party leaders including Punjab Congress Legislature Party leader Pratap Singh Bajwa, MLAs Sukhjinder Randhawa, Rajkumar Chabbewal, former ministers Bharat Bhushan Ashu, Balbir Sidhu, Gurkeerat Kotli and Punjab Youth Congress chief Brinder Dhillon reached Rupnagar along with Lamba. . Appear before the police. Addressing the protesters, Waring criticized the AAP government in Punjab and alleged that it was “misusing” the police for political vendetta.

He said that the entire state leadership of the party has come to Rupnagar in support of Lamba. “We will not tolerate any kind of injustice against our sister (Lamba),” Waring said. Former Punjab Congress President Navjot Singh Sidhu separately reached Rupnagar in support of Lamba.

“You (you) are trying to scare Alka Lamba. The people of Punjab have always stood by their daughters and sisters. We all stand with him. Lamba, speaking to reporters, accused the Mann-led government of sending police to his home to summon him. He accused the AAP government of “misusing” the police against its political rivals. Heavy police force was deployed outside Rupnagar SSP office.

The Punjab Police had visited Vishwas and Lamba’s homes on April 20 in connection with a case registered against Kejriwal for “provocative statements”. The police had earlier summoned former AAP leader Lamba on April 26, but was later asked to appear on April 27.
