Alka Mittal becomes first woman chief of ONGC

ONGC gets first woman chief in Alka Mittal

Public sector giant Oil and Natural Gas Company (ONGC) now has Alka Mittal as its first woman chairman and managing director.

Announcing this on January 3, the company said that Ms Mittal, who is the Director of Human Resources in the company, has been given additional charge as the head of the organisation.

She will hold the post for a period of six months or till the regular appointment to the post is announced, whichever is earlier.

After its former chairman Shashi Shankar retired on March 31, 2021, ONGC did not have a whole-time chairman and managing director. Subhash Kumar, former Director (Finance) was given additional charge as Chairman after Mr. Shankar’s retirement, though he also retired on December 31, 2021, after which Ms. Mittal has been given additional responsibility of the Maharatna company.
