All-electric BMW IX to debut in India in December 2021

BMW India is finally ready to bring its first electric vehicle to our shores and it will be the BMW IX. The electric SUV is all set to make its India debut in December 2021, while the market launch will probably take place in the first half of 2022. The arrival of the BMW IX will finally allow the Bavarian carmaker to join the bandwagon of luxury car makers, such as Mercedes-Benz, Audi and Jaguar, that sell fully electric SUVs in India. Of course, the BMW IX will come as a Completely Built Unit (CBU) and will compete with the likes of Mercedes-Benz EQC, Audi e-tron and Jaguar I-Pace.

2021 bmw The iX is built on a brand new architecture that uses an aluminum space-frame and innovative carbon cage for high torsional rigidity while reducing weight. Visually, the electric SUV comes with the signature design language of the new BMW model but with futuristic styling elements to give it an EV personality. The car also comes with the signature kidney grille design, which houses an intelligent driver assistance system including radar, camera and sensors.

Inside, the electric SUV gets a futuristic-looking cabin with a minimalist design covered in soft-touch material. Rocker switches have been used for gear selection, while the car also gets BMW’s new operating system. The iX is also the first vehicle from the automaker to introduce the new hexagonal steering wheel, which is said to improve ease of access and provide the driver with a better view of the information display. The seat adjustment button has now been moved to the door panel of the iX. The SUV also gets a large display area with split screen for infotainment and instrumentation, which acts as the main command center of the car.

According to Europe’s WLTP test cycle, BMW claims a range of 300 miles or 483 km.

The all-new BMW iX also features the brand’s fifth-generation all-electric powertrain that uses two electric motors to develop a combined output of 375 kW or 503 bhp. The new powertrain helps the electric SUV accelerate from 0-100 kmph in 4.6 seconds. It is equally fast in terms of charge time and can fully recharge up to 70 percent in 40 minutes using a 200 kW fast charger. A quick minute charge will accelerate the car to 120 km.
