All ready for immersion of Lord Ganesha’s idol

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has completed arrangements for the smooth passage of thousands of idols of Lord Ganesha, which will pave a way for their immersion on Friday, the last day of the Ganesh Navratri festival.

The civic body has deployed a total of 10,470 sanitation workers to clean and remove garbage at various places of immersion as well as procession routes. The workers along with supervisors are divided into Ganesh action teams.

Each team, which covers a distance of three to four kilometers along the procession route, consists of a sanitation supervisor or sanitation jawan, three sanitation field assistants and 21 workers.

A total of 253 teams have been formed in all the three shifts of the day to cover the 303.3 km long route of the procession route.

280 cranes have been put into service, 130 of them mobile cranes are used to lift the statues, and the remaining, stationary cranes, are deployed at immersion points. Of these, around 35 cranes have been deployed at Hussain Sagar alone – 15 on the Tank Bund side, nine on the NTR route and the rest on the PVNR Marg (Necklace Road).

Barricading has been done for 12 kilometers by the Road and Building Department and double layer barricading has been done to handle the crowd in Hussainsagar. Watch towers have also been built, as well as view cutters.

HMDA, on its part, has made arrangements to clear the debris around Hussainsagar Lake at NTR Marg, People’s Plaza, which will be transported in coordination with GHMC. A total of 1,000 employees and supervisory staff have been deployed for this purpose.

The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board has also set up 122 camps on procession routes and immersion points to supply drinking water.

A total of 38 fire tenders have been deployed along the route of the procession to deal with any situation. Four boats will be deployed by the department at Saroornagar, Kapra and Pragati Nagar lakes, besides five more regular boats and four speed boats will be deployed by the tourism department at Hussainsagar.

Southern Power Distribution Company (TSSPDCL) has installed 48 transformers around Hussainsagar, five around Saroornagar lake, out of a total of 101 transformers at various locations.

A total of 48,179 units of temporary lighting have been provided at various points, and action teams have been formed to ensure that they are working, and to prevent any electrical accidents.

Tree branches have been cut along the route of the procession and circle wise emergency teams have been formed for pruning wherever necessary.
