5G Network: After buying spectrum worth Rs 88,078 crore in auction, Reliance Jio on Monday said it is ready to launch an advanced 5G network to make India a global leader in digital connectivity and solutions.

The company emphasized that it is all set for a 5G rollout in the shortest possible time, which will provide a nationwide fiber presence, an all-IP network with no legacy infrastructure, an indigenous 5G stack and technology. The ecosystem is supported by strong global partnerships.

Reliance Jio Infocomm Chairman Akash M Ambani said the company is ready to lead India’s march into the 5G era and added, “We will celebrate the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ with a pan-India 5G rollout.”

“Jio is committed to offering world-class, affordable 5G and 5G-enabled services. We will provide services, platforms and solutions that will accelerate India’s digital revolution, especially in education, healthcare, agriculture, manufacturing and In critical areas like e-governance…,” Ambani said in a statement.

In the recently concluded auction, Jio has acquired the rights to use spectrum in the 700 MHz, 800 MHz, 1800 MHz, 3300 MHz and 26 GHz bands.

“The acquisition of the right to access this spectrum will enable Jio to build the world’s most advanced 5G network and further strengthen India’s global leadership in wireless broadband connectivity,” the company statement said.

Jio’s 5G network will enable digital solutions that will accelerate India’s AI (Artificial Intelligence)-powered march towards becoming a $5 trillion-plus economy.

Jio highlighted that it set several world records during the rollout of the largest 4G network in the shortest time, and “Jio will now raise the bar even higher with its 5G services”.

Jio’s 5G solution is “built in India, by Indians and tailored to the need of every Indian”.

Jio’s statement claimed, “With its unmatched 700 MHz spectrum footprint, Jio will be the only operator to offer pan-India true 5G services with fast speeds, low latency and massive connectivity.”

According to sources, Jio has bought radiowaves worth Rs 39,270 crore in the coveted 700 MHz band and Rs 1,050 crore for spectrum in the 800 MHz band.

Sources said Jio paid Rs 33,740 crore, Rs 6,990 crore (26 GHz band) and Rs 7,027 crore (1800 MHz band) for radio waves in the 3300 MHz band.

Meanwhile, the company said its total annual payment for spectrum purchased in multiple bands is Rs 7,877 crore.

“Through this acquisition, Jio’s total owned spectrum footprint has increased to 26,772 MHz (uplink + downlink), the highest in India,” the company said.

India’s biggest ever auction of telecom spectrum saw bids worth a record Rs 1.5 lakh crore, with Mukesh Ambani’s Jio bagging nearly half of all airwaves sold with a bid of Rs 88,078 crore.

The conglomerate of richest Indian Gautam Adani, whose entry into the auction was billed as another flash point in the rivalry with Ambani, paid Rs 212 crore for 400 MHz, or a sum of all spectrum sold. Paid less than a percentage. Used to offer public telephony services.

Telecom tycoon Sunil Bharti Mittal’s Bharti Airtel made a successful bid of Rs 43,084 crore, while Vodafone Idea Ltd bought spectrum for Rs 18,799 crore.

Telecom Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said that of the 72,098 MHz spectrum offered in 10 bands, 51,236 MHz or 71 per cent was sold.
