All set for Kojagari Lakshmi Puja? Here are some dos and don’ts

It is hardly a week since Goddess Durga left for Kailash with three of her four children. Their fourth child, Lakshmi, is back for Kojagari Lakshmi Puja, which will be celebrated with much fanfare in all Hindu households on Wednesday. The day on which Lakshmi Puja is celebrated is also known as ‘Sharad Purnima’.

Durga idols were immersed on October 15 this year, soon after preparations for Kojagari Lakshmi Puja began in markets and homes, with families in Bengal gearing up to welcome the goddess of wealth to their homes. This festival is celebrated on the last full moon day of the month of Ashwin, also known as Kojagari Purnima in Bengal, Assam and Odisha.

Lakshmi is the patron goddess of wealth, prosperity and fortune. It is believed that worshiping them brings prosperity in the family. However, there are a few things you should keep in mind while worshiping Goddess Lakshmi. One has to satisfy the Goddess with devotion, respect and dedication. Therefore, on the day of Lakshmi Puja, do not do any such work which will anger the deities.

Here is a list of do’s and don’ts in this Lakshmi Puja:

Goddess Lakshmi is known to despise any kind of noise, hence one should refrain from ringing brass bells in the ceremony.

Do not paint the seat of the Goddess with white color or offer white flowers to her. Offer colorful flowers like hibiscus or lotus.

Do not offer Tulsi leaves in Lakshmi Puja, as it may make her angry and adversely affect you.

It is strongly advised not to use iron utensils in Lakshmi Puja.
