All universities in Haryana must go for recognition: Governor-VC – Times of India

Governor-Vice Chancellor Bandaru Dattatreya on Tuesday said that all universities in Haryana should go for accreditation by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) so that they can be better prepared and provide quality education to the students.

“I strongly feel that all the universities of Haryana should go for NAAC accreditation. In the process of preparing for accreditation, universities will get to know their strengths and weaknesses. This in turn makes them introspect and correct their weak points,” Dattatreya said after releasing the report titled ‘Quality Fact Sheets and Recommendations for Government and Aided Higher Education Institutions of Haryana’ at the Raj Bhavan here. NAAC has prepared the report.

Shri Dattatreya urged NAAC to conduct more handholding activities for higher education institutions of Haryana so that they can achieve quality mandate in line with National Education Policy-2020, Shri Dattatreya said: “I expect that as far as Education is considered, Haryana will be a leading state. He said that the recommendations given in the report to the Higher Education Institutions, State Government and other stakeholders are very appropriate and will help in enhancing the quality of Higher Education Institutions of Haryana. Some of the recommendations given in the book in the context of the National Education Policy-2020 will give a lot of scope to improve the quality of government institutions, he said.

“There is a need to develop an ecosystem in the campuses to ensure that the students are well equipped with the skills. Our higher education needs to be in sync with the needs of the market and the emerging job trends. The focus should be on training our students to be job creators. The difference has to be made through entrepreneurship and incubation centers. Run off mill approach will not work. We have to think out of the box and convert our thinking into tangible results,” he said.

Reiterating that education is the first death of poverty, Dattatreya said: “We must ensure that our students get quality education. We will all agree that our resolve to realize the goal of ‘Ek Bharat, Best India’ will be realized only when students from socially disadvantaged groups are supported financially and educationally.”

Principal Secretary, Higher Education, Haryana, Anand Mohan Sharan, IAS, said that the pace of recognition for higher education institutions in the state would be further accelerated. “Efforts are being made to ensure that higher education institutions in Haryana become role models in every respect,” Mohan said.

Shyam Sundar, Senior Advisor, NAAC, highlighted how accreditation helps higher education institutions, and hence each one of them should opt for assessment and accreditation. Other dignitaries including senior officers of NAAC and Higher Education Department, Haryana were present on the occasion.
