Mohammad Mustafa even reportedly said that the state government and opposition leaders should keep in mind that if he “calms down, no one will be able to control him”.

The video of the alleged hate speech was first shared purportedly by BJP Punjab Youth Wing spokesperson Chiranshu Ratan. Responding to the same, BJP spokesperson Shazia Ilmi said, “Our team and Chiranshu found the video and it was a speech given by Mustafa during election campaign in Malerkotla, a Muslim dominated area. It is a hate speech and he is trying to incite violence and disturb communal harmony by making such provocative statements ahead of Punjab Assembly elections.”

Ilmi further said that Sidhu should answer this and clarify his stand regarding this aspect of his advisor.

He said that the Election Commission should take note of the video and ensure that Mustafa’s wife and Malerkota MLA Razia Sultana is not allowed to contest from there. BJP Yuva Morcha has filed a complaint with the Election Commission demanding registration of an FIR against Mustafa.

Senior AAP leader and Punjab affairs in-charge Raghav Chadha also commented and said that it is clear that Congress wants to disturb peace and harmony in Punjab ahead of the elections. “A former DGP and advisor to the PPCC chief and close to the Channi government, it is clear that the party wants to disturb peace and harmony. The party should clarify whether they support these statements and whether they are spreading their views through their advisors.”

However, Mustafa has denied all allegations and said that “there was no Hindu-Muslin reference to what happened in Malerkotla.” He also shared a clip of the purported video.

In a series of tweets, he said, “Your intended branding will not work on Mustafa as my nationalist credentials are far better than yours with a history of a lifetime fight against India’s enemies and those who destroy communal harmony in the state.”
