Allow private buses to transport students, operators told CM

Private bus owners on Monday urged Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to allow their vehicles to carry school students, seeking permission for buses that are currently open to only a handful of riders in the capital.

The Delhi Taxi, Tourist Transporters and Tour Operators Association, which represents private bus owners, alleged that the families of operators belonging to middle class families were being affected by not allowing private buses to ply.

“On one hand, the government is demanding that we pay road tax on vehicles which are gathering dust due to COVID-19 for the last one and a half years and on the other hand, private buses are yet to be allowed to start operations. . Schools are being opened from Monday,” said Sanjay Samrat, president of the association.

He said, “We have written to the Chief Minister demanding that the education department be allowed private buses to ferry school children and road tax exemption should be given to businessmen like us, who have been with them for more than a year. There’s no work.”
