Alwar rape victim’s condition stable after surgery; no arrests yet

A disabled minor girl, allegedly raped and abandoned near a flyover in Alwar, remains stable after surgery at a Jaipur government hospital on Thursday. He was found bleeding and admitted to the district hospital in Alwar, from where he was referred to Jaipur on Tuesday night.

No arrests have been made so far in connection with the case, as the police were unaware of the identity of the perpetrators and were scanning CCTV footage of the area for clues. The 15-year-old mentally challenged girl, who is unable to speak properly, has not been able to provide any clues to help the police.

Health Minister Parsadi Lal Meena said the girl was out of danger after the two-and-a-half-hour-long surgery. According to surgeons at Sir Padampat Mother and Child Hospital, the victim suffered deep injuries to her internal organs, which were apparently caused by some sharp object, where she was operated upon.

The opposition BJP has attacked the Congress government, accusing it of failing to protect women despite its claims, and appointed a four-member committee to probe the incident and “demand justice” for the victim. The members included BJP National Secretary Alka Singh Gurjar, Dausa MP Jaskaur Meena, Mahila Morcha President Alka Mundra and Chomu MLA Ramlal Sharma.

Ms Vadra had reached Ranthambore on Wednesday on a private visit. BJP leaders staged a sit-in and raised slogans and asked Ms. Vadra to go back.

Taking cognizance of the matter, the Rajasthan State Human Rights Commission has directed the Alwar Superintendent of Police to immediately arrest the culprits.
