Some langars of Amarnath Dham were affected due to cloudburst. A helicopter has been dispatched to rescue the injured.

“Some casualties were feared, there is no clarity yet. Rescue teams are at work. ITBP teams along with other agencies are in rescue operation.”

Earlier, amidst tight security, the eighth batch of over 5,700 pilgrims left here on Thursday for the double base camps of the 3,880-metre-high cave shrine of Amarnath in the south Kashmir Himalayas, officials said.

The 43-day long journey began on June 30 from two tracks – the traditional 48-km Nunwan-Pahalgam in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district and the 14-km short Baltal in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district.

Officials said over 89,000 pilgrims have so far offered prayers at the cave temple, which houses the naturally formed ice-shivalingam.
