On Tuesday, May 24, 2022, the Kollam Additional Sessions Court in the much-awaited judgment sentenced Kiran Kumar to 10 years’ imprisonment. convicted of dowry harassment Due to which his wife Vismay committed suicide.

For dowry death, the accused shall undergo imprisonment of ten years for committing an offense under section 304(b) of IPC, while he shall undergo imprisonment for 6 years under section 306 (abetment to suicide) and a fine of Rs.2 lakh. will fill. Failure to pay will result in imprisonment for six months. 498(a) (marital cruelty to dowry) punishable with imprisonment of 2 years and a fine of ₹50,000 and imprisonment for three months in default of payment.

Kiran Kumar was sentenced under sections 3 and 4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act with fines of ₹10 lakh and ₹5,000 as well as imprisonment of six and one year. Failure to pay can result in imprisonment of 18 months and 15 days respectively. Vismaya’s parents will be given Rs 2 lakh as compensation from the fine. Announcing the quantum of punishment, Judge KN Sujit said that the period of punishment would run concurrently.

Vismaya’s father Trivikram said that he was completely satisfied with the decision which would send a strong message to the society. Meanwhile his mother said that they were expecting life imprisonment and an appeal in the High Court. Both the parents reiterated that apart from Kiran Kumar there are other people involved in the case and they will try their best to bring him before the law.
