Amazon increases Prime subscriptions in UK, Europe by up to 43%

Amazon News: Tech giant, Amazon is set to increase the prices of its Prime subscriptions in the UK and Europe by up to 43 per cent from September this year – the first such increase in the UK since 2014.

As The Verge reports, attributing “increased inflation and operating costs” to the increase in emails to customers, the e-commerce giant said its annual Prime membership in the UK will increase 20 percent from £79 to £95 .

Whether Amazon Prime will increase subscriptions in India remains to be seen, a country where it has over 22 million users and the company is rolling out a major redesign for Prime Video.

In France, membership has been increased by 43 percent from 49 euros per year to 69.90 euros. Amazon will also grow 39 percent annually in Spain and Italy, while Germany will grow 30 percent annually.

Recently, the company increased the Prime cost in the US to $139 per year from the previous $119. Amazon Prime includes fast shipping, access to sales, and free movie/TV streaming in most markets.

Amazon is also increasing the monthly cost of Prime by 1 pound or 1 euro per month in European markets. The price change was announced ahead of Amazon posting its Q2 earnings results on July 28.
