Amazon workers in small New Jersey center file for union election

The US National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) said on Monday that Amazon.com Inc. employees have shown enough interest to vote on unionizing at a small facility in New Jersey.

The NLRB said that at least 60 of 200 workers at Amazon’s DNK5 depot in Bayonne, New Jersey, have submitted cards demanding that the trade union be organized as part of the local 713 International Brotherhood.

The news follows a growing interest in the event at Amazon, which for years had opposed unions in its US operations.

The date and terms of the election for the delivery station DNK5 have not yet been agreed. Amazon may dispute the legality of this latest petition.

The company did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
