Ambedkar University starts online admission process for COA courses

The online admission process for Ambedkar University’s undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the College of Art (COA) has begun, the university announced. This comes amid an ongoing tussle between Delhi University and the Delhi government over the affiliation of the CoA, which funds Ambedkar University.

The admission process has started from Friday. The university said in a notification that the last date to apply online is June 30. Could not get admission in Arts College during last academic session due to affiliation issue.

“As a part of Dr BR Ambedkar University, the online admission process has been started for the academic session 2022-23 in the undergraduate and postgraduate programs of the College of Arts and the online registration/application form has been started in the following programmes. ,” the notification read. There are 11 courses for which the Ambedkar University has started the admission process.

These are Bachelor of Fine Arts (Applied Art) 131 seats, Bachelor of Fine Arts (Art History) 33 seats, Bachelor of Fine Arts (Painting) 67 seats, Bachelor of Fine Arts (Sculpture) 26 seats, Bachelor of Fine Arts (Print) Making) 34 seats, Bachelor of Fine Arts (Visual Communication) 34 seats, Master of Fine Arts (Applied Arts) 15 seats, Master of Fine Arts (Painting) 15 seats, Master of Fine Arts (Sculpture) 15 seats, Master of Fine Arts (Print Making) 15 seats and Master of Fine Arts (Visual Communication) 15 seats. In April, DU had asked the College of Art to start its admission process, stating that it would not be recognized by the university. The Lieutenant Governor’s office had earlier given in-principle approval to the merger of the College of Arts with Ambedkar University, subject to de-affiliation from DU.

However, the Executive Council of Delhi University, its highest decision-making body, refused to terminate the college’s affiliation. In March last year, the Delhi government announced that the College of Arts would be affiliated to Ambedkar University, as the college was facing various problems.

Eleven teachers of DU’s Academics for Action and Development wrote to the vice-chancellor earlier this month seeking his intervention after the arts college started its admission process as a part of Ambedkar University. In a letter, 11 teachers, including members of DU’s executive council and academic council, said such “unfortunate action” by Ambedkar University was in violation of the Delhi University statute.
