Amendment in rules to ease verification of records submitted in faceless tax assessment

Rules for document verification of faceless taxpayers have been relaxed

Simplifying the process of authenticating documents of those opting for faceless assessment, the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) on Tuesday said rules have been amended to ensure that their documents are verified by electronic verification code or To be done through EVC.

The new rules have come into effect from 6 September 2021.

“The amended rules provide that the electronic records deposited through the registered account of the taxpayers in the portal of the Income Tax Department shall be deemed to be authenticated by the taxpayer by EVC,” a statement issued by the CBDT said.

This means that once a person submits an electronic record by logging into his/her registered account on the Income Tax Portal, it will be deemed that the record is authenticated by EVC.

The CBDT also said that certain other entities like companies, tax audit matters etc. will also be covered under the simplified process of authentication by EVC.
