American Airlines: Air travel banned after Indian student urinates

An Indian passenger who allegedly urinated on an American co-traveller mid-flight on an American Airlines flight has been barred from flying with the airline.

Arya Vohra, 21, was traveling from New York to Delhi on flight AA292. Vohra is a student of US University. He urinated on an American citizen on March 4 when he was drunk. The student was probably urinating involuntarily because of the effects of the alcohol while he was asleep. The leak somehow fell on a fellow passenger. A source told PTI that after the student apologised, the victim did not want to report the matter to the police as it could jeopardize her career. However, the airline took it seriously and informed the Delhi Air Traffic Control (ATC) at the airport.

The Delhi Police also said that necessary legal action is being taken based on the airline’s complaint. The airline has submitted a report regarding the incident to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). DGCA official told ANI, “We have received a report from the concerned airline. It seems that they have handled the situation in a professional manner and have taken all appropriate actions.”

Earlier, American Airline’s statement said, “American Airlines Flight 292 with service from John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK) to Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL) was detained by local law enforcement upon arrival at DEL due to a disruptive customer.” The flight landed safely at 9:50 pm.”

It further states, “Upon arrival at the aircraft, Purser reported that the passenger was heavily intoxicated, and was not following crew instructions on board. He was repeatedly arguing with the operating crew.” , was unwilling to seat and was constantly endangering the safety of the crew.” and after disturbing the safety of the aircraft and fellow passengers, finally urinated on Pax seated on 15G.

The pilot had contacted Delhi ATC and informed about the passenger and sought protection. CISF informed to take necessary action.

Incidents of urinating in flight have increased since last year. Last year, Shankar Mishra Drunk man allegedly urinated on 70-year-old female co-traveller in business class Air India Flight on 26 November 2022. Mishra was arrested from Bengaluru on 6 January and remanded to judicial custody by a Delhi court on 7 January, however, was granted bail on 31 January. He was banned from flying for four months by Air India in connection with the case. Besides this, the airline de-roasted four cabin crew and a pilot for ignoring the woman’s complaint

In another incident, another man, in an inebriated state, urinated on the blanket of a female co-traveller. The person had tendered a written apology following which no coercive action was taken against him. The incident took place on 6 December 2022 in an Air-India flight from Paris to Delhi.

Meanwhile, the pilot of the aircraft informed the air traffic control (ATC) at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport, following which the male passenger was apprehended. The two passengers were later let go after a “mutual agreement” and the accused tendered a “written apology”.
