403 seats are at stake in the Uttar Pradesh elections. In the last assembly elections of 2017, BJP came to power with an overwhelming majority of 325 seats.

Baghel was also an observer of the Assam Assembly elections held in March. The Congress lost the election by winning a total of 50 seats. The BJP won a majority of 75 seats and became the first non-Congress alliance in the state to win twice in a row. However, since the 2016 election, the Congress has got 26 seats.

Tension has prevailed within the Chhattisgarh Congress for the past few days as the MLAs have reportedly reached Delhi to show strength. The Congress seems to be divided into two camps in the state – one of Baghel and the other of state health minister TS Singh Deo.

Sources in the Baghel camp, however, have repeatedly insisted that the MLAs are reaching Delhi on their own volition and there is no show of force.

The alleged feud comes at a time when the Congress is already facing an ongoing crisis within its ranks in Punjab. Charanjit Singh Channi took over as the new Chief Minister following the resignation of Captain Amarinder Singh following a political tussle between Punjab Congress President Navjot Singh Sidhu.

The demand for a change of guard came to the fore in June 2021 after Baghel completed two-and-a-half years as chief minister and a change of leadership by Singh Deo’s supporters despite the Congress saying nothing about the rotation at the top position in the state. demanded. came to power in 2018.
