A ‘monster’ wildfire has wreaked havoc in France as it engulfed nearly 7,000 hectares of the country’s land. The French government is taking the help of fire teams from other European countries to deal with the deadly fire. According to a report, more than 1,000 firefighters supported by water-bombing planes are battling the blaze, which forced thousands to flee their homes in the southwestern Gironde region. The scorching heat and winds are fueling the flames. “It’s a monster, a monster,” said Gregory Allion of the French firefighting body FNSPF. Experts claim that climate change is the main reason behind heat, floods, wildfires and crumbling glaciers across the world in recent weeks. Josef Aschbacher, the head of the European Space Agency, said rising land temperatures and shrinking rivers as measured from space left no doubt about the consequences of climate change. This will adversely affect agriculture and other industries due to the prevailing conditions.
