Amit Shah meets ‘migration affected’ families in Kairana, starts door-to-door campaign in western UP

Amit Shah visited families whose members were allegedly forced to migrate during the Samajwadi Party rule.

Hitting the headlines over the issue of alleged “migration” of Hindus from Kairana before 2017, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday visited the affected families who have returned from door to door. election campaign in western Uttar Pradesh.

With party workers and leaders wearing saffron caps and BJP election symbols, Mr Shah strolled down a rain-soaked street in the freezing cold, distributing pamphlets mentioning the achievements of the BJP government amid chants of “Jai Shri Ram”. and ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’.

This is the first political program by Mr Shah in Uttar Pradesh after the announcement of the assembly election dates and the election of Kairana assumes significance as BJP leaders alleged that a large number of Hindus were forced to migrate from the area during this period. . Samajwadi Party rule, making it a big election issue in 2017.

In recent election rallies, top party leaders have been raising the issue again, claiming better law and order situation in the state under the Yogi Adityanath government.

However, the issue has taken on a communal color and was seen as a polarizing factor in the last elections.

The residents of the area described security as the most important issue and some showered flowers on the BJP leader and raised ‘Modi-Modi’ slogans.

The BJP has fielded Mriganka Singh, the eldest daughter of late Hukum Singh, who won the seat multiple times, against RLD-Samajwadi Party candidate Ikra Hasan from Kairana.

Iqra Hasan was fielded after the SP was attacked by political opponents for giving ticket to the party’s tainted MLA Nahid Hasan, who was arrested under the Gangsters Act after filing his nomination on January 15.

Kairana is a city and a municipal board in Shamli district in western UP. Mr Shah is again tasked with overseeing the party’s campaign for the upcoming assembly elections as he has a good understanding of the caste dynamics in the state and personally coordinates with workers from all constituencies.

He was the main architect of the BJP’s landslide victory in the 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha elections and the 2017 assembly elections in the state.

Voting in seven phases for the 403-member Uttar Pradesh Assembly will begin on February 10.
