Amit Shah reviews flood, monsoon preparedness; Wants Centre-State Coordination

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday reviewed the overall preparedness to deal with floods and monsoon and sought to strengthen coordination between the central and state governments for proper prediction of floods and water level rise. Presiding over the meeting, he took stock of the preparedness made by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) in the flood-affected areas.

An official spokesperson said the Home Minister reviewed the overall preparedness to deal with floods during monsoon. Shah also reviewed the long-term measures to formulate a comprehensive policy to mitigate the country’s flood-related problems.

The spokesman said that the officials were directed to continuously strengthen the coordination between the central and state level agencies to set up a permanent system to provide accurate predictions of floods and water level rise in the major catchment areas of the country. . Home Minister gave instructions India The Meteorological Department (IMD) and the Central Water Commission (CWC) will continue to upgrade their technologies for more accurate weather and flood forecasting.

NDRF has been directed to prepare SOPs in collaboration with the states for issuing early rain warnings at local, municipal and state levels in areas of heavy rainfall. Shah stressed on making the Damini app available in all local languages, saying it gives lightning warnings three hours in advance which can help in minimizing the loss of life and property.

He also ordered timely dissemination of warnings about electricity to the public through SMS, and other mediums like TV and radio. The spokesperson said that the decisions taken in the meeting will help in mitigating and alleviating the suffering of lakhs of people who are facing the wrath of floods affecting their crops, property, livelihood and lives.
