Amit Shah to launch ‘District Good Governance Index’ in J&K today

Union Home Minister Amit Shah will virtual launch the District Good Governance Index (DGGI) in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday at 1 pm.

Amit Shah took to Twitter and said it was in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “commitment to provide a transparent and people-friendly administration to the people of Jammu and Kashmir”.

Shah tweeted, “Continuing PM Narendra Modi ji’s commitment to provide transparent and people-friendly administration to our sisters and brothers of J&K, I am presenting the District Good Governance Index (DGGI) through video conferencing today at 1 pm. I’ll launch.”

Shah will release the District Good Governance Index for 20 districts of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday, making Jammu and Kashmir the first Union Territory in the country to have the Good Governance Index.

The event will be jointly organized by the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG) and J&K Institute of Management, Public Administration and Rural Development in association with Center for Good Governance, Hyderabad.

Union Minister Jitendra Singh and Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha will also address the program.

The District Good Governance Index of Jammu and Kashmir was prepared by DARPG in collaboration with the Government of Jammu and Kashmir in pursuance of the announcements made in the resolution “Behtar e-Hukumat-Kashmir Elamia” adopted in the regional region on July 2, 2021. The exercise to prepare District Good Governance Index was started in July 2021 which has now been completed and J&K will become the first Union Territory in the country to have Good Governance Index.

The District Good Governance Index of the Government of Jammu and Kashmir represents a major administrative reform in benchmarking of good governance at the district level and a significant step forward for timely collation and publication of data at the state/district level.

The District Good Governance Index is a milestone and is expected to provide a robust framework for evidence-based assessment of the performance of all districts of Jammu and Kashmir.

Arun Kumar Mehta, Chief Secretary, Government of Jammu and Kashmir and V. Srinivas, Secretary DARPG, Government of India will also address the event.

Senior officers of the Government of Jammu and Kashmir, District Collectors and Chief Planning Officers of the districts will participate in this program.

Planning Secretaries and Secretaries of Administrative Reforms of Governments of all States and Union Territories and District Collectors of Non-Election States have also been invited to participate in the program through video conferencing.

A presentation will be made on the creation of District Good Governance Index by the Center for Good Governance, Hyderabad on this occasion.

This will be followed by district presentations by the selected 12 District Development Commissioners, who will showcase the achievements of various sectors.

This will be followed by a panel discussion on DGGI-A Way Forward for the future 2.0 version of DGGI to measure and benchmark the performance and improvement of the districts in future also.
