Bengaluru:

Union Home Minister and senior BJP leader Amit Shah is arriving in Bengaluru on Friday on a two-day visit to take stock of the party’s preparations for the May 10 assembly elections in Karnataka.

He will hold a roadshow in Devanahalli town in Bengaluru Rural district on Friday afternoon, the birthplace of 18th century Mysore ruler Tipu Sultan.

BJP sources said that Shah will hold a meeting with senior party functionaries here in the evening regarding election preparations.

He is scheduled to participate in a program organized by a private news channel on Saturday before returning to Delhi.

In Devanahalli, BJP leaders will campaign for the party’s Pilla Munishampappa, who is pitted against JD(S) sitting MLA LN Narayanaswamy and former Union minister and seven-time MP Congress candidate KH Muniyappa.

Mr Muniyappa, who was defeated in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, is contesting the assembly polls for the first time.

In the 2018 assembly elections, the fight was mainly between Sree Narayanaswamy (86,966 votes) and Sree Venkataswamy (69,956) of the INC. BJP candidate K Nagesh finished third with 9,820 votes.

Voting will be held in the state on May 10 and the results will be out on May 13.
