“An Elected Person Can’t…”: Between Tamil Nadu Minister With Governor

The DMK government has asked President Draupadi Murmu to sack the Tamil Nadu governor.

New Delhi:

Tamil Nadu Finance Minister P Thyaga Rajan on Thursday said governments in non-BJP states are facing increasing stalemate of governors and “inappropriate” conduct of “unelected persons” a day after their dramatic escalation of one-offs. But questioned.

“In the eyes of the founders of our country or the framers of the Constitution, there was nowhere to make second guesses for the personal views of a non-elected person appointed on the advice of the Central Government or to have an opinion about a law passed by the elected assembly. Elected as a member in the Assembly of State Representatives,” Dr Thiaga Rajan told NDTV in an interview.

“I would say that the role of the Governor is one which should have high dignity and utmost dignity. And it is very unfair for the people in the office of the Governor to start accepting philosophical views about things which are from the Constitution. are beyond or about whom they have their own opinion. How the society should be run, etcetera,” he said.

“Those are things you can do as street-level politicians. Those are not things that have you sitting as governor of one of the largest and most hardworking states with the second largest economy in the country. That’s the whole thing.” Kind of inappropriate for that role,” said Dr Thiaga Rajan.

The minister’s remarks came a day after friction between governors and governments in three non-BJP-ruled southern states, Tamil Nadu demanding the recall of RN Ravi, Kerala to replace Arif Mohammad Khan as chancellor of state universities Proposed a special ordinance, and Tamilisai Sundararajan expressed doubts over his phone being tapped in Telangana.

The DMK government wrote to President Draupadi Murmu, demanding the sacking of Ravi, alleging that he “instigated communal hatred”.

The petition, signed by members of parliament of the ruling coalition, also listed bills stalled by the governor’s office, including those seeking exemption of the state from the purview of the NEET medical examination, and questioned the delay in approval.

He said, “I will only comment that it is worth noting that these are all states where the government is not of BJP and, [states] Where BJP’s electoral presence is very less,” Dr Thiaga Rajan said, adding that withholding of bills by the governor was a major problem for the state.

“Governments which are run by parties other than BJP are facing more interference or more hurdles from BJP-appointed governors,” he said.
