Chandragiri constituency in Tirupati district secured a place in the ‘Asia Book of Records’ for its eco-friendly initiative by its local MLA and government whip Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy to provide 1.24 lakh clay idols to homes during the upcoming Vinayaka Chavithi festival. did.

Book representative Uma Shankar recently presented a certificate and a gold medal to the MLA, stating that such a large-scale initiative has not been taken anywhere in the Telugu states.

Tirupati Urban Development Authority (TUDA) vice-chairman S. Harikrishna and Secretary S. Lakshmi expressed happiness over the award. The MLA prepared the idols in ten different localities spread across the constituency by buying 2,500 tonnes of clay locally and involving 700 potters, thereby creating local employment.

The idea is to make the idols without chemicals by bringing soil from local water bodies and dissolve them in the same tank after the festival, Mr. Bhaskar Reddy said.
