Andhra Pradesh DGP’s ‘inactive’ Twitter handle hacked, cybercrime case registered

The verified Twitter handle of Andhra Pradesh Director General of Police (@dgpapofficial) has been allegedly hacked by miscreants.

The hackers have allegedly misused the account and ‘liked’ obscene content on the microblogging site.

The matter came to light when some Twitter users, including followers of the Telugu Desam Party, posted a video revealing the content liked by the DGP’s handle on Twitter.

According to the viral video, the handle with the profile picture of DGP KV Rajendranath Reddy is followed by 15,300 users and two users – ‘Manikandanaprabhu Naidu’ from Chennai and the AP Police handle (@appolice100).

In a press release, Deputy Inspector General (Technical) PHD Ramakrishna said that the Twitter account, which was created in 2019, was inactive since February 2020.

“The account was hacked and obscene pictures were liked from it and videos showing them were being deliberately circulated. A case was registered against the hackers with the cybercrime police and necessary action will be taken,” Mr. Ramakrishna said.
