The fisheries sector revived due to effective steps taken by the Centre, L.K. murugan says

Union Minister of State for Fisheries L. Murugan said that Andhra Pradesh is a major exporter of marine products and expressed hope that the state’s share will soon increase to 50% from the current 30%-36%.

Addressing a meeting in Machilipatnam after inspecting the progress of development work at Gilkaldindi fishing port on Friday, Mr. Murugan said the fisheries sector was in turmoil during the COVID-19 pandemic, but effective steps are now being taken. He added that fisheries is one of the key sectors that has a high potential for growth in exports, and that the center is supporting the seaweed culture introduced by the fishermen.

Shri Murugan said that the Union Government has selected five ports in the country including Visakhapatnam Port for development works, which will bring them at par with international standards.

Fisheries Minister Sidiri Appala Raju, MP Vallabhneni Balasori, MLA Perni Venkatramaiah, Fisheries Commissioner K. Kannababu and Krishna Collector Ranjit Bhasha were present.
