Android: Here’s why MediaTek phones get Android updates slower than Qualcomm’s, according to Xiaomi executive – Times of India

Android 12 stable releases were released last month for eligible Pixel phones. However, other Android OEMs will have to wait a bit longer. There is reportedly some buzz that the phones are on Qualcomm SoCs Get Android Updates Faster, Are Ongoing mediatek, According to a report by GizmoChina, Xiaomi executive Li Ming has now given an explanation for the same.
According to Ling, Google usually already provides the necessary code to both Qualcomm and MediaTek. This helps companies prepare for the upcoming Android update. “This saves a lot of time as opposed to making the code available after the Android stable release,” says Lim, according to the report.
Lim further adds that this is where the differences between the two chip giants come in. According to him, since Qualcomm appears to have a large team, it enables the company to work in parallel and deliver all the packages required for the update process in one go. “MediaTek, on the other hand, delivers them in batches that are slow and some MTK platform phones are placed in the second or third batch of updates,” Lim said.
He also called the upgrade on a batch basis “an inevitable option”. He further added that while the main reason for going for them is the paucity of manpower, the batch upgrades also help the company to save itself from trouble, if there is any problem. This is because if a bug occurs in the code, it can be isolated in a certain batch and fixed without affecting a large number of devices.
