Andy Murray will make his Liver Cup debut in September, will play alongside Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer

British tennis star Andy Murray is set to make his debut in the upcoming edition of the Laver Cup to be held from September 23-25. Team Europe will face World in the O2 in London in the championship.

The 35-year-old Murray is the third member of Team Europe to be captained by veteran Bjorn Borg. Spain’s Rafael Nadal and Switzerland’s Roger Federer are the other two current players in Borg’s six-man squad.

Borg, who has won 11 Grand Slam titles in his career, was excited to have Murray in his team. The veteran praised the three-time champion for carving a niche for himself over the years.

“I am extremely excited to have Andy on my team. He is a dedicated, ruthless and inspirational competitor who has reinvented himself at the top of the game. He will be an incredible asset to the home team in both singles and doubles.” Borg was quoted as saying.

Murray, who is currently competing at Wimbledon 2022, also looked forward to playing alongside Nadal and Federer, who have won 42 Grand Slams together.

“I’m looking forward to playing the Laver Cup in London. I love playing as part of a team and there’s great atmosphere and intensity in this event. I’ve heard a lot of good things and I’m looking forward to playing Roger and Rafa for Team Europe.” Excited to be working with both of them.”

Murray defeated Australia’s James Duckworth 4-6, 6-3, 6-2, 6-4 at Center Court on Monday in the first round of Wimbledon 2022. Murray will now face 37-year-old John Isner in the second round. Grass Court Tournament on Wednesday
