Annamalai University ordered the government to shut down indefinitely. Medical and Dental College

Annamalai University on Monday announced suspension of classes for undergraduate students except freshers and indefinite closure of Government Medical and Dental Colleges (erstwhile Raja Muttiah Institute of Health Sciences) in Chidambaram till further orders.

All undergraduate students except MBBS and BDS freshers (2021-22) batch were asked to vacate their respective hostels by 4 pm.

This step has been taken after protests by students demanding reduction in fees. The students have appealed to the government to immediately bring the fees equal to the fees of government institutions.

In view of the unfavorable and unfavorable conditions in the Government Medical College campus in Cuddalore district, medical and dental colleges have been closed indefinitely, K Sitaraman, Registrar (in-charge) of the university said in a circular.

“Classes for MBBS and BDS freshers will be conducted as usual, and they will be allowed to stay in the hostel. The posting of CRRIs of medical and dental colleges will continue and they will also be allowed to stay in the hostel. The presence of CRRI will be mandatory’, he said.

All other students have been directed to vacate the hostel immediately, he said, adding that unauthorized stay in hostels and gatherings after 4 pm will be taken seriously.
