Appeal to forbid February 14 as ‘Cow Hug Day’ withdrawn

Union Minister’s appeal to celebrate February 14 as ‘Cow Hug Day’ has been withdrawn. The decision to withdraw the appeal has been taken keeping in mind the persistent memes on social media regarding ‘Cow Hug Day’. The Animal Welfare Board has announced the withdrawal of this decision. On Thursday, Union Minister Purushottam Rupala made a general appeal to the people to celebrate February 14 as ‘Cow Hug Day’ and hug the cows around them.

Please inform that Rupala is the Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Realm. He had said on Thursday that for this purpose nothing much should be read into the date of February 14 election. February 14 is celebrated as ‘Valentine’s Day’ across the world.

At the same time, Rupala had told the matter that there is an old tradition of worshiping cow in this country and it is a matter of great happiness that there are candidates who appeal to the people.. It would be good if people respond positively to our appeal.

Since 14th February is the day of love, it would be good if people remember and love the cow on that day. He had said and if someone is killed, one should not get angry, but have mercy.

This is the first time, AWBBB, a statutory advisory body on animal welfare legislation, also appealed to cows in the country to celebrate ‘Cow Hug Day’. The board had said that the appeal has been made because the Vedic traditions are almost on the verge of extinction due to the advancement of western culture.

This board has been established in the year 1962 under section 4 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, provides grants to animal welfare organizations and advises the Center on animal welfare issues.
