Apple 2022 Swift Student Challenge winners announced: Tech experts from India who won

Patiala-born Jaskaran Singh and Pune-based Jay Firke are among more than 350 students from 40 countries and territories selected as winners of Apple’s ‘2022 Swift Student Challenge for showcasing exceptional coding skills.

The ‘Swift Student Challenge’ is part of Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC22).

Every year in the lead up to WWDC 22 (which begins June 6), young people around the world use Swift Playgrounds to showcase their coding skills, Apple said in a statement late Friday.

“I have always had a passion for learning and creating new things. Design and coding are the outlets of my creativity. Hence, it was always a dream for me to win the Swift Student Challenge as it is the most prestigious award that a student developer can win,” Singh he said.

21-year-old Singh is currently pursuing engineering at Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology.

He started coding in school, and his Swift submission uses CoreML to help users refresh themselves with simple exercises after long tasks.

Singh developed a productivity app called ‘News: Minimal To-Do’, which is available on the App Store.

Now he plans to start a SWIFT club at his university and encourage more students to take SWIFT.

“I learned and developed a lot during the Apple Challenge and the win has given me the confidence to do more with my skills to make a positive impact on the world,” he said.

21-year-old Firke is a self-taught developer who learned coding using online resources. He is currently pursuing engineering at Pimpri Chinchwad College of Engineering and Research.

“At WWDC 2022, I want to know more about augmented reality and the new technologies that Apple is going to launch this year. The most interesting part about WWDC is the one-on-one lab with Apple developers as well as the designing and coding elements,” said Firke.

He attended WWDC in 2019 as a scholarship winner and also applied in 2021.

Previously studied at the Macrovision Academy in Burhanpur, Madhya Pradesh, Jai focuses on working in the AI ​​and AR space and his submissions with ‘Pusherball’ are completely AI-powered.
