Earlier this month, Apple launched two new Macbook Pro Models with two powerful processors for them. While the processor and other features are talking, all eyes are (unexpectedly) on the notch that Apple has placed macbook Pro Performance. Some wondered what the notch is for FaceID But that wasn’t the case and now Apple has explained why it doesn’t offer FaceID on MacBooks.
In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, Mac’s VP Tom Boger and ipad Product Marketing, stated that “Touch ID on a laptop is more convenient because your hands are already on the keyboard.” FaceID was first introduced by Apple with the iPhone X in 2017 when the notch made its first appearance.
Another criticism of Apple surrounding the MacBook is the lack of a touchscreen on the laptop. there are many windows PCs like Lenovo, Dell, HP that come with touchscreen. Even affordable Chromebooks come with touchscreen capabilities, but Apple has consistently refrained from entertaining the idea of putting a touchscreen in a Mac. The reason behind this is actually the iPad.
As John Turnes, Apple’s senior vice president of hardware engineering, explained to The Wall Street Journal, “We build the world’s best touch computer on the iPad. It is completely customized for that. And Mac is fully optimized for indirect input. We haven’t really felt any reason to replace it.” The iPad Pro comes with an M1 processor and Apple claims it’s much faster than a lot of Windows PCs. The iPad Pro comes with FaceID and Magic Keyboard There is an option to buy the phone separately but it doesn’t have TouchID.
Companies like Microsoft and Intel have made fun of Apple many times through their advertisements for not having a touchscreen. Perhaps the next target of Doug and Jabs towards Apple will be the notch and lack of facial recognition on the MacBook.
